ProgeSOFT supports the Norwegian Refugee Council

Monday, March 7th, 2016

The ProgeSOFT Company has been backing the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), a humanitarian non-profit organisation, for a number of years. NRC protects the rights of displaced and vulnerable people in situations of armed conflict and natural disaster, delivering basic necessities. A roof overhead is among the most urgent needs for a displaced person, and a basic right. NRC strives to ensure that those who flee can find refuge in a safe shelter.

ProgeSOFT supports NRC by continuously granting updated CAD software licenses of its flagship product, for professional drafting and modelling in the DWG file format. The organisation makes use of ProgeCAD Professional to create design documentation for shelter construction. NRC utilises the software to support the design and planning of both emergency shelters and long-term durable housing, as well as to assist in the planning and preparation of refugee camps or other settlements. NRC also uses ProgeCAD to maximise the impact of essential social and technical infrastructure, including spaces for emergency education, drainage and sanitation facilities.

ProgeCAD is proud and honoured that its small contribution to NRC can support their critical work for people forced to flee their homes.

Martin Suvatne, Special Adviser on Shelter at NRC’s Head Office in Oslo, commented: “ProgeCAD Professional is an essential tool for our shelter programmes across the globe. With the scale of our operations, the urgency of the situations and the impact on people’s lives, we have to rely on comprehensive solutions. The support given by ProgeCAD is vital for our shelter programmes”.

NRC has shelter programmes across the globe, currently implemented in 25 countries: Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Greece, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Mali, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Serbia, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria, Ukraine and Yemen.

ProgeSOFT endeavours to remain concerned about social problems that afflict the world. Whenever there is need, such as in the case of the Norwegian Refugee Council, the software house strives to find solutions in its area of expertise. NRC invites interested readers to learn more about the organisation, their projects and their continuous work assisting people in need by visiting their official website: http://nrc.no/

ProgeSOFT provides support to Save the Children Organisation

Thursday, July 16th, 2015

ProgeSOFT offered its contribution to the operations of reconstruction of the Nepal regions hit by the devastating earthquake which struck Nepal on 25th April 2015. The earthquake ravaged multiple Nepal areas echoing in India, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan and causing damages to persons and property.

For years the ProgeSOFT company has been supporting Save the Children, the international independent Organisation that saves children’s lives, fight for their rights and take an active part in aid operations in the regions struck by natural disasters. In the present emergency aid operation Save the Children’s teams assisted Nepal’s children and their families giving out hygiene kits, tarpaulins and materials to set up temporary shelters to guarantee the safer and more protected conditions.

ProgeSOFT has given its further humble substantial support by donating some progeCAD licences, the CAD software program for professional drafting,  necessary for the Organisation to create design project  documentation for the shelters construction. For the Save the children Organisation the task of dwellings reconstruction is even tougher and more complicated due to the hard climatic conditions. The progeCAD software was used to create design projects of 1000 temporary classrooms to allow the children to resume their studies.

Damiano Croci, CEO for ProgeSOFT, commented: “We would like to stand by the victims of the Nepal earthquake in this difficult moment and don’t want to miss out on the chance of giving a helping hand to the people who find themselves in trouble.”

The ProgeSOFT company with the technical team support the aid operations of Save the Children and are inviting its users to learn more about this organisation and its noble deeds by visiting their official website: www.savethechildren.org.uk

ProgeSOFT pushes the right buttons to make clients happy!

Tuesday, May 19th, 2015

progeCAD Professional is a versatile 2D/3D DWG/DXF-native CAD tool for professional drafting widely known as a cost-effective alternative to AutoCAD®. The ProgeSOFT company is proud of its contribution to the optimization of its customers’ design treadmill through offering a little and handy CAD software package which has been helping along thousands of users worldwide. And today the company is delighted to share with you one of the happy experiences, a story of a Customer from India, Mr. PRS Sivakumar, an acknowledged Architect and Interior Designer who uses progeCAD Licenses in his design and development office.

Mr. PRS Sivakumar is one of the zealous ProgeSOFT supporters, who exploits progeCAD Professional to perform his everyday design tasks and on top of it collaborates with ProgeSOFT’s Technical Team submitting his ideas, testing results and giving his expert’s take on the software functionality and performance. This Customer is a shining example of the software product devotee who is running in double harness with the CAD developer doing his little bit for the program steady improvement from version to version.

In his glowing testimonial about progeCAD Professional, Mr PRS Sivakumar tells his story about switching to the economical CAD solution and elaborates on the discovered perks of progeCAD:

We are veterans in CAD since 1996. When my office switched over to progeCAD when the 2011 version came with a special Indian Price tag, that was the wisest move I had made in the whole of my professional life. (When I said “switched over”, it was not a transition – my staff & myself got accustomed to progeCAD in half a day). I have the “lighter” version of the Big CAD 2014 on 5 of my computers installed concurrently with progeCAD. These are Core-i3 with 8 GB RAM with Nvidia GT 630 graphics cards with 2 GB VRAM. While progeCAD runs effortlessly & superbly on these machines (even with much leaner hardware too – which my friends have), the other CAD limps & stalls every now & then. So since the last 2 years my staff have never launched that program and they are more than satisfied with progeCAD. And I did not renew my subscription to the expensive “lighter” version of the Big CAD. Every year it is getting more & more expensive and demanding more & more power from the computer – and it became a very painful annual expenditure.”

Then in his testimonial Mr PRS Sivakumar moves on to disclosing his company daily routines and working peculiarities as well as the way progeCAD is applied to this:

We routinely produce not less than 300 detailed drawing sheets for an individual Bungalow/ Villa and about 1000 drawings for star hotels etc. And we have not had any trouble doing these on progeCAD nor any loss of productivity when compared with the expensive CAD.”

In particular he starts dwelling on progeCAD’s advantageous features he has benefited from: “And with the customization capabilities of progeCAD (you cannot customize the “lighter version” of the Big CAD), including LISP – which my office uses extensively, productivity boost is very evident. […] I am writing this review from an architect & interior designer’s point of view. But this 2016 version has a host of other new features for professionals in other disciplines of Engineering. (which I have not explored nor used). progeCAD has some exclusive features which are highly useful in day-to-day works when the expensive CAD does not have. Converting a PDF drawing file to a .dwg format can be done with ease with the pdf converter plugin readily available within progeCAD. I have found that this does a much superior job in giving clean .dwg drawings including the layer contents on different layers – which even the expensive pdf to dwg converter sold separately by 3rd parties fail to do. And the expensive CAD does not even have this mostly used utility.”

The architect spotlights the financial aspect as one of the fundamental benefits of progeCAD noting that: “progeCAD in India costs less than 1/10th the price of the Full Version CAD and less than 1/3rd the price of its younger brother, the lighter version of CAD which had 2d capabilities with much lesser 2D features than its bigger brother. So even as a 2D CAD it was deprived of many advanced 2D functionalities which the bigger brother had”.

Users are often unwilling to change easily their software they get accustomed to, but in conclusion Mr PRS Sivakumar readily assures that progeCAD is a sustainable solution and a surefire choice:

If somebody asked me on sustainability with running cad programs, then progeCAD is the way to go. One would never regret – it is an investment rather than an expenditure”.

The ProgeSOFT company always welcome feedback, constructive criticism and suggestions that will allow to enhance the program and come closer to standard. You are kindly invited to share your progeCAD experiences!

If you want to evaluate the program, at least out of curiosity, ProgeSOFT offers you a free fully-functional 30-day trial version downloadable here. Damiano Croci, CEO at ProgeCAD, commented: “All ProgeCAD heartfelt sympathy goes out to all the affected by this horrible disaster in the Philippines. With so many people in need, we want to lend our support to those who have lost everything. We hope our donation will contribute to the common goal of helping people in the Philippines to rebuild their lives in the wake of this natural disaster”.

80th National Annual Convention: PIA and ProgeCAD support the “green cause”

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013

The ProgeCAD team recommends to all his followers the participation in an interesting event:  the 80th National Annual Convention. It will take place in Cebu City from the next 21st to 24th of February and it is organised by the Philippine Institute of Architects (PIA) and supported by our ProgeCAD Philippines partner.
“Touching Earth, touching Lives” is the main theme of the meeting, it will focus on ecological and social awareness in design. The Philippine Institute of Architects takes always care of environmentally friendly topics showing its green advocacy as well as ProgeCAD.
Architect Dioscoro Alesna Jr, event co-chairman for plans and programs, states: “The theme mainly covers on how architecture literally affects the earth, the way in which a building “sits” in its environment and its visual impact in the cityscape and how we, as architects, touch people’s lives with our designs”. His sentence sums up the peculiar aspects of the forthcoming convention. It is very actual especially now after the recent natural disasters occurred in the Philippines, where new design solutions were developed, for example: emergency housing and refugee camp using paper-tube walls or paper poles used also in Japan and Africa.
In fact, the Philippine Institute of Architects sees the convention as a way where architects can discuss and plan new developments in case of calamities. The three days meeting is inspired by well-renowned architects in the global industry and was driven to address the environmental issues facing the Philippines. The 80th national annual convention is also a way to involve new followers to the green movement promoting a change in culture and attitude of people.
The official calendar evinces the presence of the notable speakers: Kazuko Sejima, Kundoldibya Panitchpakdi and Doosdee Thaitakoo. Unfortunately Shigeru Ban is unable to be part of the event as advertised in the last period. The first contribution is “Architecture is environment” by Kazuko Sejima. She won the prestigious Pritzker prize together with Ryue Nishizawa. The second contribution is “Sustainable Housing in the Time of Climate Change” by Kundoldibya Panitchpakdi and the third one is “Balancing Conservation and Development in Historic Town Centers” by DosadeeThaitakoo, both architects from Thailand. Then there will be lectures about sustainable houses and way of balancing conservation on historical places. All this will be accurately supervised by ProgeCAD that always supports these environmentally friendly causes.
Architects and representatives of non-architect companies are welcomed to join the event starting from Thursday and we invite you to do the same!
